Lilac Bush - Vincent van Gogh - Canvas Oil Painting suits both traditional and modern interiors. As a still life oil painting, it works as a standalone focal point or as part of a living room gallery wall, and unlike a print it is genuinely hand painted in oils.
May 1889
Oil on canvas
73 cm x 92 cm (28.7 in x 36.2 in)
The State Hermitage Museum, Russia.
This marvelous work was painted at Saint-Remy, where the artist was undergoing treatment. Van Gogh depicted a lilac bush in the hospital gardens, the broken, separate brushstrokes and vibrant forms recalling the lessons of Impressionism, yet with a spatial dynamism unknown to the Impressionists. This bush is full of powerful, vivid energy and dramatic expression. The modest natural motif is transformed by the master's temperament and the brilliance of his emotions. Embodied here in this fragment of an overgrown garden we find all of nature's life-giving forces. In rejecting Impressionism, Van Gogh created his own artistic language, expressing the artist's romantic, passionate and deeply dramatic perception of the world.
Our artists reproduce this still life composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes still life oil painting so sought after for a living room.
This is a genuine hand painted oil painting, not a canvas print. Our painters match the palette of Lilac Bush by eye and build up the still life forms in thin layers, which is what gives the finished still life oil painting its luminosity.
Hang this still life oil painting above a sofa, console, or bed to give a living room an instant focal point. Its post-impressionist palette works with both minimalist and period interiors, and the piece also makes a considered gift for housewarmings, weddings, and art lovers.
In short: Lilac Bush - Vincent van Gogh - Canvas Oil Painting combines a post-impressionist composition, a 100% hand painted oil painting process, and the flexibility of made-to-order canvas sizes — a dependable choice for still life oil painting and living room wall decor.
