Self Portrait 5 - Vincent van Gogh - Post-Impressionist Fine Art Reproduction suits both traditional and modern interiors. As a portrait oil painting, it works as a standalone focal point or as part of a dining room gallery wall, and unlike a print it is genuinely hand painted in oils.
Summer, 1887
Oil on canvas
Wadsworth Athaneum, Hartford, Connecticut, United States.
Throughout the summer of 1887, Vincent van Gogh painted a series of self-portraits. This self-portrait is unique in its color palette.
Although many of van Gogh's 1887 self-portraits employ a warm, yellow-based palette, here van Gogh modulated his tonalities from the ginger red of his beard and hair, the muddied greens of his jacket, to the stark pale of his complexion. Set against a deeply shadowed background, this portrait recalls the influence of Rembrandt, who also painted his own portrait repeatedly and with great variation.
Every hand painted oil painting in this figurative series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.
Each canvas is painted entirely by hand with professional oil paints on artist-grade cotton canvas. No printing, giclée, or digital imaging is used at any stage, so the surface keeps the slight relief and color variation of real brushwork.
This figurative oil painting wall decor is equally at home in a residence, a boutique hotel, or a professional office. Its post-impressionist character makes it a safe, distinctive gift for anyone furnishing a dining room.
