Self Portrait with Pallette
1889
Oil on canvas
Smithsonian American Art Museum (and the Renwick Gallery) - Washington DC, United States.
Vincent van Gogh's 1889 Self-portrait (Whitney) reflects the violence of the seizures Vincent suffered in the summer, which left him debilitated. To prevent him from ingesting more turpentine, his doctors confiscated his painting materials. When Vincent recovered sufficient calm and strength, he was able to return to painting. Van Gogh's first self-portrait of this time shows him haggard, and he described his appearance as "lean and pale, a poor devil," but he positioned himself to hide his maimed ear.
The figurative subject is rebuilt stroke by stroke in oil, giving the finished canvas the depth expected of post-impressionist oil painting wall decor.
Each canvas is painted entirely by hand with professional oil paints on artist-grade cotton canvas. No printing, giclée, or digital imaging is used at any stage, so the surface keeps the slight relief and color variation of real brushwork.
This figurative oil painting wall decor is equally at home in a residence, a boutique hotel, or a professional office. Its post-impressionist character makes it a safe, distinctive gift for anyone furnishing a hallway.
Order Self-portrait (Whitney) as a hand painted oil painting on canvas and add lasting post-impressionist character to your hallway. Custom sizes, a digital proof before dispatch, and secure worldwide shipping are included.
