Composition & Subject
1889
Oil on canvas
73 cm (28.74 in.) x 92 cm (36.22 in.)
Oskar Reinhart Collection, Switzerland.
While in hospital in Aries, Vincent made several drawings and paintings of the hospital garden. Here, he selected a high point of view, suggesting perhaps that he had set his easel on the balcony above the courtyard. The flowerbeds, radiating in wedge-shaped plots around the fountain in a traditional formal pattern, mark a contrast to the freer compositions he painted off the grounds.
Our artists reproduce this fine art composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes fine art oil painting so sought after for a bedroom.
Materials & Craftsmanship
Trained artists work in stages — underpainting, mid-tones, highlights, and detail — using traditional oils on canvas. Because nothing is printed, every hand painted oil painting has its own subtle texture and depth.
